Since graduating with a Bachelor of Performing Arts, University of Tasmania, Darren has worked extensively in theatre production firstly as stage manager and operator, then moving onto production and operations management, to lighting, set and sound design to technical direction. Darren is currently the Production Manager and Lighting Designer for Tasdance and has worked with the company in various roles on numerous professional, educational and community productions since 1996 and has toured to Melbourne, Sydney, Regional Tasmania, (including Bass Strait Islands), Victoria and New Zealand.

Darren has worked as Production Manager for the School of Visual and Performing Arts at University of Tasmania, as Production Manager for Centr Stage, as the Arts Up North Coordinator for Arts Alive, the Head Technician and Operations Manager at the Devonport Entertainment and Convention Centre, the Performing Arts Centre Coordinator for Scotch Oakburn College, Production and Company Manager for Ten Days on the Island, Lighting Designer for Three River Theatre and Launceston College, Technical Director for Slipstream Circus, Circus Risque, the One Day Projects and Mudlark Theatre. Darren was also a founding member of Second Storey Theatre Productions and worked as the Production Manager and Lighting Designer. He has also been involved in the Arts Alive Initiative.
