Michael graduated in 1991 from the Centre for Performing Arts in Adelaide with an Associate Diploma in Performing (dance). Michael's first joined Tasdance in 1992 for 3 years and has worked both nationally and internationally. 1994 found Michael leaving Tasdance to pursue a freelance career, working with Outlet Dance, Vis-A-Vis Dance Canberra. In 1995 and 1996 Michael resided in Belgium, working with Charleroi Danses and Jose Besprosvany Dance, and then Tanz Company Elio Gervasi in Vienna. During his time in Europe Michael toured extensively and was able to view a variety of international companies.

Since returning to Australia, Michael has collaborated extensively with Wendy McPhee and the Two Turns Project. He was also a core member of Tasdance's 1997-1998 seasons undertaking the roles of teacher, choreographer and performer. 1999 saw Michael performing at the Hobart Fringe Festival and in the Dance Works program, In the Heart of the Eye. In 2000 Michael worked as Rehearsal director for Tasdance's Hobart season of OBSESSION, mentored for Oscillate, a youth dance collective in Hobart, toured the east coast of Australia and Paris with Dance Works, In the Heart of the Eye and taught and choreographed Food, a multi media work for Hobart College.

Michael has choreographed 3 works for Tasdance including A-Peeling (co-choreographed with Jay Watson and Wendy McPhee) in 1997, Touched in 1998 and Fantasy Masquerade (no acquaintances questioned) in 2000.
