Jason Lam

Jason is a diverse artist whose practice includes dance performance, choreography, composition, architecture, moving image, interactive technologies and visual projection design, particularly in a theatrical context. He started his ballet training at 16 at Ecole Classique in Sydney. He has received a foot in the door grant from the Australia council and has performed and collaborated with artists and organisations such as Bayerisches Staatsballet, Sydney Dance Company, Sydney Theatre Company, Dance North, Opera Australia, One Extra, Bondi Ballet, Graeme Murphy, Jason Pitt, Benjamin Winspear, Fiona Malone, Paulina Quinteros, Vislab and the University of Technology, Sydney.

He is a visual artist and filmmaker, collaborating with Sydney Dance Company in Some Rooms and the Random Play season 2003 and with Jason Pitt in Blueprint, Inasmuch, Tarket (also appearing as a performer). Jason has a bachelor of digital media (College of Fine Arts, UNSW) and his work has been exhibited at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Raw Space Gallery, Brisbane, West Space Gallery, Melbourne and the Australian Centre for Moving Image. He felt privileged to be invited to attend 'Time Place Space 4', a National Initiative to develop hybrid arts in Adelaide and also participated in a residency with Raw Space Gallery in Brisbane. His experimental poetic dance film Unfed has screened in galleries and festivals nationally and internationally. He is also in demand as a teacher, designer and sound/music artist. He was a Finalist in the British Council's 'Realise your Dream' award.

Jason first worked with Tasdance in the Garden of Paradise for Ten Days on the Island in 2005 and has since performed with the company in Divine Harmonies, Hard YAKKA and Earth Beneath our Feet.
