Karole Armitage

Karole is an innovative choreographer, regarded as one of the most exciting artists to emerge from the New York dance scene. She was a member of the prestigious New York based Merce Cunningham Dance Company before becoming a freelance choreographer. Since 1980 her work has been presented around the world at Festivals and private productions in Switzerland, France, Italy, England and Australia. It has included choreography for film and video as well as live performance. In the early 1980's she choreographed works Drastic Classicism held at the American Theater Laboratory, New York and It Happened at Club Bombay Cinema for the Extemporary Dance Company, London. In 1984 Rudolph Nureyev commissioned Armitage to create a new work for the Paris Opera Ballet, in which she also danced.

Karole spent several weeks working with the Tasmanian Dance Company (later renamed Tasdance) in 1984, during this time she choreographed G - Vechile.
